Rob Davidson - Meetings Expert

Rob graduated with a Masters in English Literature and Language from the University of Aberdeen. He joined the University of Westminster in 1998 after spending nine years in France teaching tourism at two universities and at the ESSEC-Cornell Institute of Management in Paris. Prior to that, he spent five years as Education and Training Manager with the British Tourist Authority (now VisitBritain) in London, working with UK universities to improve the quality and the quantity of tourism courses in higher education.

Rob’s main areas of expertise are conference management and destination marketing. His teaching focuses on these subjects at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level, concentrating on travel for all business-related purposes and how destinations compete to win major conferences and other business events such as exhibitions and incentive trips.

Rob’s research and consultancy activities focus on destination marketing and the management of conferences. His research is generally of an applied nature, and recent topics include: career backgrounds and aspirations of Convention Bureau professional staff; the demands of Generation Y conference delegates; and best practice in Convention Bureau efforts to encourage conference and trade show visitors to extend their visit at the destination, for leisure. Rob is also commissioned each year by Reed Travel Exhibitions to research and write the annual Industry Trends and Market Share Report which is launched at the European Incentive and Business Travel and Meetings exhibition in Barcelona.
